Dolphin
Customer Success:
Legacy Archiving and System Retirement
The
Company
A global leader in aviation electronics and communications for government
and commercial applications, it provides aviation electronics for the world’s
aircraft manufacturers and airline customers.
The
Problem
During initial go-live with SAP, only current master and transactional
data were brought over from legacy systems into SAP. Long term internal and
regulatory data retention requirements forced the company to keep the most
of the pre-SAP legacy systems information online. This was very costly in
terms of system operation and maintenance. From a user perspective, accessing
the older information became an unproductive activity. They were also concerned
about resource knowledge evaporating over time.
The
Solution
Dolphin designed and implemented a solution that allowed the company
to output critical information from a variety of legacy platforms in their
native format. It went to an intermediate spool directory, was converted to
ASCII format and parsed for key attributes. Key attributes were transferred
to SAP and stored in their IXOS Archive environment and linked to the key
information in SAP. Dolphin’s solution established a framework that
allows the company to retire multiple legacy systems, and significantly save
operational costs year over year .
