AP Week is Here, AP Week is Here

The exalted chorus is ringing down the hallway of our West Chester office. It reverberates from office to office. Some pause to whisper, others to belt it out loud. Yes, it is indeed the week to celebrate all things Accounts Payable. I’m not entirely certain who gets to set the dates for such events. I was thinking of making my birthday International Dolphin Day, but I quickly realized there was already a day celebrating the intelligent mammal: September 1st. No matter who makes the rules, it’s now the week to shine the light on AP, and all of those stalwart good people who make this function their profession. We know who they are:

  • the mailroom openers/sorters
  • the scan operators
  • the indexers or data entry folks
  • the payment makers and reviewers
  • the administrators and supervisors
There are also the master data professionals, and those who are manning the phones and email accounts liaising with the vendor community on any number of issues and status updates. And of course there are those in procurement who can make things work so smoothly, the timely receivers on docks in locations far afield from the AP epicenter. There are the approvers who doubtless have a multitude of tasks yet still seem to pay appropriate heed to our requests for their approvals. And there are the accounting types, longing for an accurate accrual report and account coding to tell the proper tale of the business. So take a moment to celebrate with your colleagues, or those business partners with whom you work closely at other organizations. Take some time to applaud the efforts of the support team who makes the AP process seem so seamless. Set aside a moment to praise the accomplishments over the year that was, and set goals and sights for a year more productive than the last. There are a multitude of ways we can improve our work-a-day lives, and promoting and leading change in process and technology solutions is one way. Explore the latest and greatest, benchmark against peer organizations and listen to what the AP experts have to say. Be the change! Congratulations AP, and thank you, to all those who work so tirelessly to get the bills paid on time. Hip, Hip Hooray!
