Data archiving and management of the SAP NetWeaver™ Business Warehouse component (SAP BI) is necessary to help manage or slow database growth and to help maintain system performance. This session demonstrates how to analyze the business intelligence (BI) database by using standard SAP functionality as well as a third-party tool, PBS BI Analyzer. Analyzing the database is the first step in creating a data archiving strategy. Besides data archiving, data management recommendations (such as SAP-supplied cleanup programs) is also reviewed.
In this session, the differences between ERP and BI data archiving are explained and the advantages of data archiving are evaluated. These advantages can be used to help make a business case for a BI archiving project. Attendees will learn how to implement technical archive objects as well as how to create archive objects for InfoCubes and DataStore. This session covers steps for configuring the logical and physical file paths and file naming conventions. Attendees will be given tips and techniques for creating a data archiving process and scheduling archive jobs. After the data has been archived, this session reviews ways to access the archived data – such as SAP standard functionality – by using Nearline Storage (NLS) and PBS CBW.
SAP data archiving is an integral part of a company’s overall information lifecycle management (ILM) strategy. Within the last few years, the business world has seen many changes in regards to more stringent regulations and legal compliance mandates. Because of this, the rules and responsibilities for data archiving have to adapt to adhere to these changes. This is one reason why archiving data from SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (SAP BI) needs to be part of ILM strategy.
