PBS Archive Add Ons

PBS archive add ons assure users that they can retain transparent access from SAP to their information even when it’s archived. It allows them to view and access archived information together with online information – users see the archived data in the same way, and with the same screen layout, as they did when it was still in the database. As shown, PBS archive add ons make it easier for business users to retrieve SAP archived data. The left side shows the result of a standard transaction query in the SAP database. Archiving with Standard SAPArchiving with PBS archive add onsPBS archive add ons is a standard software solution, developed with SAP technology, and the modules correspond to those in SAP. SAP transactions and reports are enhanced with the functionality to display and analyze archived data and are completely implemented using exclusively standard SAP development tools. The one requirement to use PBS is existing SAP ADK archive files. PBS archive add ons have the same modular layout as the SAP system. They consist of standard SAP transactions with an additional parameter for data selection. This parameter allows users to select the data source for each transaction (1 = database + archive, 2 = database only, 3 = archive only). Archived and database data is displayed in an integrated list. The PBS archive indicator (*) marks documents retrieved from archive. Calculations like totals or subtotals are always performed on the complete list, including both database and archive data. To support end user navigation, PBS provides a menu containing all supported transactions. Find out more about PBS Archive Add Ons on the PBS website.

PBS ContentLink

PBS ContentLink is a lean and highly efficient interface for connecting SAP solutions and compliant storage systems. During storage, it enables archive data to be saved directly in an unchangeable format in the storage system. As data and documents can be made available at any time in their original format, PBS ContentLink enables organizations to meet legal requirements for compliant data storage. PBS ContentLink supports the SAP ArchiveLink interface and SAP-specific WebDAV 3.0 protocol. During storage, the data is extended to include metadata that can also include retention and storage periods. Thus a future-proof implementation is possible using the ILM components Retention Manager and Retention Warehouse. PBS ContentLink is not a Content Management system, yet it comprises numerous CMS functions and enables the implementation of an ILM-aware storage strategy when used in combination with SAP Document Management. Amongst other things, it provides a transparent insight into the document status and enables a centralized data administration in the SAP Document Management System. For many SAP customers the use of PBS ContentLink represents an inexpensive alternative to a classical CMS system. Find out more about PBS ContentLink on the PBS website.

PBS Enterprise Content Store

PBS Enterprise Content Store (ECS) enables organizations to continue to access structured and unstructured SAP data even after a system has been decommissioned. The client/server-based solution enables you to evaluate SAP DART extracts, PBS Data Export Interface extracts, SAP print lists, as well as original documents linked to SAP without an SAP system. The links between the tax-relevant records and original documents also continue to exist outside the SAP system. Further important functions include the authorization and the repository concepts. In order to perform data retrieval in DART extracts you are also provided with pre-configured views that you can extend to include your own views if necessary. Find out more about PBS Enterprise Content Store on the PBS website.

PBS Nearline Storage Infrastructure

PBS Nearline Analytic Infrastructure (NAI) enables organizations to extend SAP systems using column-oriented database technology, such as Vector from IBM, DB2 BLU from IBM and SAP IQ, for processing application data. This results in an extremely high degree of data compression and much faster response times for database queries involving mass data. With PBS NAI, organizations can index data archives much faster. Archive indices can be deleted from the SAP database as they are stored in the analytics server comprising only about 10 per cent of memory space compared to the SAP database. In addition to the memory reduction the response times are also reduced during the access to archives. Find out more about PBS NAI on the PBS website.
