SAPPHIRE NOW & ASUG Update: Day 2

CharlieASUG Today at SAPPHIRE NOW and the ASUG annual conference,  Charlie Hoppa, of McCormick and Company, and Katharina Perigo, Sr. Data Archiving Consultant at Dolphin, presented McCormick's data archiving success story. He emphasized the importance of engaging business owners early in the process to build support for achiving."Users need to understand that archiving does not delete the data. The data is still available -- it's just being sourced from another data store." So far, McCormick has been able to archive 2TB of data, which has allowed them to control data volume growth, improve system performance, and lower the cost of running their SAP systems. But all work and no play makes for a dull conference, so after the sessions ended yesterday the entire Dolphin team, along with our valued customers and partners, celebrated a successful first day of the conference at the  Dolphin Customer Appreciation Dinner at Cuba Libre restaurant in Orlando. It was great catching up with people we haven't seen since last year, and introducing new people to our community. We already can't wait for next year's event!  Tonight promises to be another fun night as attendees head out to see Jon Bon Jovi and the Kings of Suburbia. Stay tuned tomorrow, when Dolphin partner, Sundeep V. Ravande, of Innovapptive Inc., presents "Accelerate time to market and value of SAP mobile solution deployment" on June 5th, at 12 PM in the SAPPHIRE NOW demo theater. Following that demo, Sundeep will join Vishal Awashti in the Dolphin's booth (913) at 1 PM to demonstrate Dolphin's Mobile Approvals App and discuss the benefits of unwiring the enterprise to improve productivity.

The Business Case for Data Archiving

CaseForDataArchiving

Is a picture really worth a thousand words? I just Googled ‘What is an Infographic?’ I immediately received a very long list of hits. One of the first ones—and my personal favorite—is the Infographic that explains what an Infographic is. Pretty cool.

And this brings me to the topic of Data Archiving. A stretch? Maybe not if you look at data as a ‘picture’ as does the Infographic referenced above. In ERP systems there are great volumes of data that need to be tamed so that it can be sorted, arranged and presented. But in ERP systems, the data is more complicated and how to manage it can get dicey depending on the stakeholders involved and their requirements. For corporate databases, growth must be kept in check or it becomes unmanageable. And, for those using the data, it must be available instantly whenever and wherever it is needed.

So it begs the question: Why not archive it? After all, archiving saves money on a variety of levels! Isn’t that what the boss wants? Ahh. You have to build a Business Case for Data Archiving? Enough said. Let’s go back to the picture concept. Check out the infographic below and let me know if this helps.
